If you're interested in raising African Nightcrawlers, European Nightcrawlers, Red Wigglers, or Black Soldier Fly Grubs, for composting or fishing, please read on. Our goal
is to exchange information about composting, so you and your composting/fishing worms or soldier fly grubs, get off to a good start. African Nightcrawlers and Red Wigglers can be raised in the same worm bin or bed and are easily distinguishable. European Nightcrawlers and Red Wigglers can coexist in the same bin also. They're cousins, and they don't compete for food either. Have you tried Soldier Fly Larvae, sometimes referred to as BSFL, for composting? It's called Grub Composting. Soldier Fly Grubs are true composters. Soldier Grubs will eat anything you throw at them; even pet feces. Check out our page about Soldier Fly Grubs. BSFL will eat road kill, anything humans eat, meat, dairy, etc.
Our "Worms For Sale" section contains our products. You can visit us on myspace at Alabama Wigglers or visit our Wigglers Blog. In the Worm Facts section, we cover composting worms, bedding, food, breeding & cocoons, bins, etc. The bin PH should be about 6.5 to 7.0. 7.0 is neutral. Rabbit feed is an all around good food source as are fruits and vegetables ran through a mini chopper. A homemade worm chow is easily made. Worms love rabbit manure; it doesn't have to go through the heating process prior to feeding like other manures: straight out of the rabbit and into the worm bin. Just added are European Nightcrawler Cocoons. The European Nightcrawler Cocoons hatch material will provide you with approximately 30 to 50 pounds of adult nightcrawlers. There's alot of information on the internet about raising BSFL, NightCrawlers, and Wigglers, but I'm going to help you because I raise my own for fishing
& composting. It's in the Raising Nightcrawlers & Red Wigglers guide. African Nightcrawlers are great for composting more fibrous materials while providing nicer castings. African Nightcrawlers need a temperature of at least 60*F to be prolific. They will survive in lower temperatures and will hatch at 60*F. I have proven that. Worm castings, vermicast, or just plain worm poop, is called "Black Gold" because it's packed with nutrients and great for plants.
